my vision

Bring back life to Subiaco.

Subiaco needs to be given back to its residents and reinvigorated. What makes a city lively?

  • Entrepreneurs must be given a chance to settle businesses that enrich the local community.

  • When it comes to planning or incentivising commercial interests, quality must prevail over quantity. Do we need another ophthalmologist on Rokeby?

  • Affordability for all. Western Australia's economy has changed. We need to foster reasonable prices for daily living so as not to exclude large sections of our community, rather than encourage ostentation. Unique, not elite.

  • We should, as a default, welcome new initiatives. Why are so many shop windows empty?

  • We must facilitate safe and friendly streets and meeting places, where our kids and older residents can meet and communicate instead of being isolated at home.

  • Let's encourage cycling and walking. Subiaco has good public transport connections, so we need fully protected cycle paths and measures aimed at pedestrian safety.

  • Parking should remain free for 3 hours within commercial areas.

  • Opportunities exist to create vibrant pedestrian streets like those in many European towns. Let's enhance the dimensionality of our special city.

AFL leaving Subi is not the end of Subi.

There are numerous ways to attract crowds back to Subi.

  • We should embrace the planned new school, as it will provide opportunities for local businesses and facilitate more cultural activities. Moreover, the economic impetus from this initiative will stretch over more of the calendar year than the footy season.

  •  I hope for the city of Subiaco to go forward with the creation of a cultural hub with a library with interactive tools that will adapt to the new media technologies, offer community space and exhibition spaces. There are many potential sites for this type of project: where the actual library is, where the old Coles is when it leaves, Pavilion markets, the long gone Video Ezy site….

  • The Regal Theatre should have more productions. The Arts Centre in Theatre Gardens is currently underused, with minimum programming and maximum prices. We have long been awaiting a new cinema where we can finally avoid the gigantic blockbuster Innaloo alternative.

  • More outdoor life! We are so blessed by the climate.

  • Subiaco needs more cultural events, the Arts are a gate to altruism. The Arts enrich our lives and make us better.

  • There is a reason why many of us have chosen to live in Subiaco and trade size and space for location - we appreciate not being in a dormitory suburb, but having convenience and culture on our doorstep. Let us celebrate and make the most of what we have.

Respect the HERITAGE and move forward into contemporary reality.

  • Respect Subiaco’s identity, its iconic buildings and houses, its trees and wildlife; protect its heritage.

Subiaco’s identity is closely tied to its heritage. But our identity is also allied to the                  needs of residents NOW.

  • A lot of Central ward  residents have done some major renovation works on their house. Renovation on Heritage is delicate as one has to stay truthful to the orignal building. While I was distributing leaflets, I came across a resident that showed me her white picket fence that her husband had to fabricate himself -as it is now very hard to find white picket fence that is not plastic or just basic cheap wood versions...We need to make sure keeping this heritage truthful to its origin, supporting renovations and make it easier for house owners to be the safe keepers of this heritage treasure without being bankrupt!

  • Our stewardship of this city into the future must take account of environmental solutions and use new technology to make our lives better without destroying resources. Let's address these environmental issues by measures such as banning plastic bags and encouraging renewable energy.

  • Cater for all ages because a community is complete when all its members are cared for.

Make sure that the retirement homes are mingled with the rest of the community and             specifically with the youngsters. We all know that kids and elders have a special bond.

My contribution

  • My contribution to the council will be based on listening to the needs and beliefs of the residents. I wish for a thriving, dynamic and friendly community in Subiaco.

  • I aim to use experience gained from living in France, Italy, UK, Netherlands, and the USA, and apply my knowledge to Subiaco’s unique identity and characteristics.

  • Let’s try to work more cooperatively within the council. The council should not be a court chamber but a supportive think tank with leadership that should guide the town forward in the best interest of the residents. I believe in a  collaborative approach.

  • I affirm I have no personal interest in the candidacy, just a desire to maintain the beautiful sense of community that seduced me into settling here, watching my children grow in such a special place.

Alain de Botton's 'attractive city’ has a heartbeat associated with:

1. A balanced approach to planning that embraces diversity within a cohesive framework.

2. Thriving businesses, places where people can gather… an animated city that follows the seasons and a calendar of events.

3. A compact urban plan that allows public spaces such as parks and public squares, a neighbourhood where we all live close to each other without stepping on each other’s toes.

4. A 'cosy' quality - what better feeling than being able to stroll safely in our streets?

5. A willingness to nurture its identity. To be attractive, a city has to be different, unusual, able to surprise, bold, a trailblaze.

6. A welcoming place that offers affordability for everyone.
